The unemployment rate is high in Uruguay so finding seasonal work or temporary job is not going to be easy. If you do not speak Spanish then your chances of landing a job become even more remote. The third problems with jobs in Uruguay are the salaries; they are not even close to what you may get in some of the other western countries.

The best chance of being hired if you are a foreigner who does not speak Spanish is to try an international company. There are some that hire non Spanish speaking personnel. You just have to knock on a few doors.

If you are a worker with special skills like an electrician, plumber or a mechanic then job prospects improve a bit as Uruguay has a shortage of such workers. Since these jobs require interaction with the locals, some language skills are necessary. So better brush up on your Spanish before heading for Uruguay.

There is also a demand for English teachers in the country. If you do not have much experience and are not certified, there are places that will hire you but will pay you that much less. All the good institutes will require experience and certification.

Working in Uruguay requires a work permit. Full time professional workers are sponsored by their employers and their families can join them without any problems. Employers do not generally contract workers, and since every new contract brings a new job, the work permit will have to be changed accordingly. This can be rather tedious, but there are companies that will take care of the paperwork for you. Of course for a price! The tax system in Uruguay is complex and dealing with it can be very laborious. Again there are companies willing to help you out for a price.
