Aruba is an island nation located in the South Caribbean Sea, north of Venezuela. Alongside the Netherlands, Saint Martin (Sint Maarten – the southern part of the Saint Martin island), and Curacao, Aruba is part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. Aruba is a parliamentary democracy under a constitutional monarchy, with the head of state being the Dutch Monarch, who is represented by a local governed, elected for a term of six years. A little over 100,000 people live in Aruba. The nation’s capital and largest city is Oranjestad.

Though situated in the Caribbean Sea, Aruba’s climate differs from that of other islands in the region. The country has a semi-arid climate, with an annual rainfall of almost 400 mm. Because it is located outside the hurricane belt, Aruba does not tend to experience tropical storms.

Aruba has one of the strongest economies in the Caribbean, with a very low unemployment rate and a high standard of living. Tourism is the biggest contributor to economy, and aloe and derived products represent the major exports. Other major exports include petroleum oils, alcoholic preps, and cigars. The local currency is the Aruban florin (AWG). However, the US dollar (USD) is also widely accepted, especially in the tourism and hospitality industry.

The two official languages in Aruba are Dutch and Papiamento, with the latter one being the most widely spoken. English and Spanish are the most common second languages.
