Utah has been calling people to its red rock canyon country for decades. With so much to take in the options can feel a bit overwhelming to visitors. Use this as a guide to help you narrow down some ideas so you can start to get some parameters on your trip.

Explore Salt Lake City

If you are arriving by air, chances are you will be arriving in Salk Lake City. The capital, this lovely city is worth spending a day or two to explore. One thing you will probably notice right away is that the city is laid out in a near perfect grid. Street navigation can be a breeze. Visitors to the downtown area can enjoy easy flowing traffic with bike lanes and nice sidewalks. The downtown area was originally designed so that an entire full team of oxen could turn around. Salt Lake City is also a good area to purchase any gear you may need for your adventuring.

Find Awesome Accommodation

One of the great things about visiting Utah is there are plenty of different ways to plan out your accommodations. From camping to luxury stays there is something for everyone. Don’t be fooled by all the red rock canyon country you might see. Utah has plenty of gems tucked up into the mountains as well. Regardless of whether you are visiting in the winter for a ski trip or in the summer for hiking there are some deals to be found. If you are traveling with a small group of people or a family you may find some savings by renting a whole villa or accommodations for yourself. The bonus is you will still have many of the amenities of home but luxury of being on vacation.

Enjoy Amazing Dining Experiences

Many visitors soon find out that a visit to Utah can be an action packed adventure wonderland. To compliment the active lifestyle there are also some amazing culinary options out there as well. Park City is known for offering a wide variety of exceptional dining options. If you are renting a place, don’t overlook filling that fridge full of lots of good food. There are canyons to explore, ski resorts to hit the slopes at and mountains to climb and whether you cook for yourself or go out, you will be sure to work up an appetite. It is also important to remember that most of the activities you will be doing will be at higher elevation. Don’t underestimate the need to drink more water and liquids than you think you should. If you drink alcohol, lay off the booze for about your first 48 hours until your body has a chance to get used to the altitude. If you are staying in a place with a fully equipped kitchen, take full advantage so your energy levels stay high.

Explore The Mighty 5

Utah’s National Parks attract millions of visitors from all over the world. Full of red rocks and wonder these sights are something to behold. You may not have time to visit all of them on one visit, but even visiting just one of The Mighty 5 is sure to leave lasting memories. Arches National Park is known for its 2000 plus natural stone arches. Capitol Reef National Park has beautifully colored canyons and buttes. Canyonlands National Park has dramatic desert landscapes carved out by the Colorado River. Bryce National Park has a giant national amphitheater where you can see distinct geologic structures called hoodoos. With a large diversity of plants and animals Zion National Park makes for a great place to sit quietly and look for animals. For those really adventurous, try the heart pumping Angles Landing hike.

Catch a Sunrise or Sunset

It may be hard to want to coax yourself out of a warm bed in the morning, but watching the sun come up over the Wasatch Mountains can be a spectacular way to start the day. If you are ambitious grab a thermos full of coffee and pack yourself breakfast for a morning sunrise hike. If you can’t fathom the idea of getting up so early while on vacation, then switch gears and plan to watch the sunset somewhere. Remember mountain safety and don’t stay out late on any trails unless you are very experienced. Depending on your lodging location, you might even be able to catch a sunrise from your own balcony. Or better yet, from your own hot tub!

Take in some Culture

Utah has plenty of culture to offer its visitors. One of the most notable is the Sundance Film Festival held every year in Park City, Utah. This is the United States largest independent film festival. In 2008 Park City was named by Forbes Travel Magazine as one of twenty “prettiest towns” in the USA. It is also home to the United States Ski Team, training center for members of the Australian Freestyle Ski Team and has the largest collection of factory outlet stores in northern Utah.

Utah is no stranger to visitors. This state has been attracting people to its enchanting red rock wonders for decades. If you want to get your fill of a little bit of it all, Utah has it. Enjoy your time in those beautiful mountains.
