There are approximately 30 universities in Kenya, seven are public and the rest being chartered private institutions. The USIU is the oldest private secular institution in the country with over 5000 students from over 53 countries. The institution has an ultra modern campus just a few minutes from the city centre that ensures students can enjoy exploration and study. The institution offers degree and post-graduate degrees in Accounting, Business Administration, Hotel management, Criminal Justice, Journalism among many others. The USIU can trace its roots to 1952 and an idea of Dr. William Rust that bringing people together through education could help people flourish. Due to the dream, the institution has campuses in Guam, England, Kenya, and Mexico City.
For individual engaged in health care studies interested in internship in Kenya, organizations such as the African Medical Research Foundation (AMREF) with its headquarters in Nairobi are ideal. The organization focuses on research on parasites and control methods across Africa with a goal of improving overall health and productivity. AMREF takes interns for between 3 to 6 months with preference for degree, post-graduate and doctoral students. Interns can also enlist with many international organizations such as the World Bank, UNEP, UNESCO, UNHCR, FAO and many other all active in Kenya.
