The Comoros archipelago is a group of four volcanic islands located in the Atlantic Ocean. The country, which is predominantly Muslim, is very poor and as such, many international organizations are active within the country.

For example, USAID operates a program to provide micro financial services to the local population to help uplift economic standards. In addition to this, USAID also finances an education program in the country. For professionals with experience in managing Microfinance ventures and development issues in the country should be very attractive.

The islands are also prone to flooding and in 2010 and 2013, the World Bank through the IDA provided substantial grants to the country to rebuild infrastructure and for job creation n Comoros. The IDA is a part of the World Bank that offers grants to the poorest countries in the world. For individuals with experience in economics, disaster management and recovery and project management working partnership with the World Bank and IDA could unveil work within Comoros.

Due to strategic location in the Atlantic, the island has a port that can serve a variety of purposes. However, lack of political stability has not allowed this to materialise. Nevertheless, the country has relatively low literacy level suggesting that professional staff employed within the ports including management and machine operators and maintenance services are likely to be outsourced. Several international companies with operations in other countries are also active at the country’s port. For example, Logistics Executive with operations in South East Asia, Asia Pacific and Europe operate at the Comoros port and can facilitate intra organizational transfer.

In addition to the above options, interested individuals may want to explore the tourism industry in Comoros. It is important to note that unlike other similar islands, the industry is still relatively unexploited and may provide good long-term prospects.
