Working in Greenland

Are you looking to work in Greenland? Where do you find jobs in Greenland?

Greenland is a very cold country and that is precisely what makes it so interesting. Due to its hash climate not many people are lining up to stay there for very long durations. Hence, job opportunities are available in a number of fields ranging from administration, environment, medical/hospital, fire department, communications, vehicle maintenance, airport, teaching and services. While the official language is kalaallisut, Danish is spoken widely and majority of the people also speak English well, however it is not used in official places.

To be able to function in the country, you have to first spend some time mastering the language. Some recruiting organizations even offer language courses and special trainings to help foreign workers adapt to the unique life in the country.

The work visa for Greenland is processed by the Danish Immigration Service in consultations with the Greenland Government. After the Danish Immigration Service gets a work and residence permit request, it forwards them to the Greenland Government which provides its recommendation either in support of denial of the request. It has to be remembered that Greenland and Denmark are two different countries, and a residence permit for one does not mean you can live in the other automatically. Each country issues separate residence and work permits for their countries. Qualification for residency and work permit in Greenland is determined for the most part by your nationality and qualifications.
