Skiing and snowboarding are beloved winter sports. As we are leaving the warm summer days behind us, many people are looking forward to hopefully another fantastic season of skiing. There are some fantastic ski resorts worldwide that each offer up a unique and unforgettable experience. If you are looking for a little inspiration ahead of your skiing holiday, check out our top three ski resorts in the world for a holiday to remember.

Tignes, France

France is a popular destination amongst many Europeans, including the Dutch and British in both summer and winter. France has many ski resorts, such as Alpe d’Huez, Val Thorens and Tignes. Tignes is a fantastic area for more experienced skiers to test their skills on the testing red pistes and excellent descend from the Grande Motte glacier. This red run goes all the way back to the funicular station down in Val Claret.

If you’re planning on skiing in France, research your accommodation. Tignes was purpose-built and has a few central villages. For the easiest access to the ski lifts, book a hotel in Val Claret or Tignes Le Lac. Operators like Mark Warner and independent B&Bs offer fantastic options for all groups, from families with young children to adult-only groups.

Jackson Hole, North America

Referred to as North America’s top resort, Jackson Hole has a great number of runs, 139 to be precise. In recent years, they invested heavily into this ski resort and Jackson Hole is now home to a cable car. Initially, the resort was targeting only expect skiers, scaring off the beginners. However, the resort has plenty to offer skiers and snowboarders of all abilities.

You can either decide to book accommodation close to the slopes in Teton Village but further away from the town, or stay in the centre of Jackson and travel 30 minutes to the slopes every day – the choice is yours. There isn’t a lively après ski scene in Teton Village, but there is plenty on offer in Jackson itself including cowboy bars and abundant shopping opportunities.

Whistler, Canada

The Canadian resort Whistler had to be included in this list. It is actually one of the largest ski areas in the world and the host of the 2010 Winter Olympics. The ski resort has 200 pistes, with a good division between green, blue, red and black slopes. You will also have access to an extensive off-piste area. It is a beautifully scenic area with glaciers, jagged peaks and forests.

The area also enjoys a vibrant après ski scene and is therefore quite European. The lifts close around 4pm and this is when the pints of beer start to flow. Pop by Merlin’s for some rock ‘n’ roll and nachos, or visit Garibaldi Lift Company for a beer or margarita. For a smashing après ski party, go to Garfinkel’s.
