Australia travel

March 11, 2015 //  by theinternationalwanderer//  Leave a Comment

If you have not planned your Valentine Trip then take a 5-day exotic trip from Melbourne to Adelaide on the road with Motorhome hire or campervan hire. This trip could cover Melbourne, Lorne, Port Fairy, Robe, Victor Harbor and Adelaide. The majestic tour from Melbourne to Adelaide is the one of Australia’s breathtaking southeast coastline.

You can start the journey by Australia traveldriving the Great Ocean Road and visit the surf spots of Torquay and Bells Beach. If you have an inclination to surf, scuba dive, snorkel and dip-sip in the pristine beaches of Bells Beach, you may visit Lorne – the holiday haven and, of course, the Twelve Apostles. Your fitness freak will be well looked after by a stroll through lush forest in Otway National Park and waterfalls. Watching and playing with whales from historic Warrnambool is worth the penny spent on the trip. Seafaring in Port Fairy and Portland besides the towering sea cliffs of Cape Bridge water is worthwhile. Fossils of giant marsupials of the world heritage-listed Naracoorte Caves, wine tasting in Coonawarra is exciting and very fun filling. Cruising the Coorong and invading alluring beaches and wineries of the Fleurieu Peninsula en-route Adelaide is definitely fun filling.

(a) Melbourne-Lorne

Start with driving into Geelong on Bellarine Peninsula, de-stress by taking  a walk along the waterfront and visiting the local vineyards and if the swimming bug in you tempts you to take a dip do so. After a relaxed sea siesta heading to Torquay witnessing the spectacular cliff-hugging Great Ocean Road to Victoria’s Surf Coast will pep up your travel mood. Add also to itinerary the huge surfing museum and ride the waves of popular Jan Juc or iconic Bells Beach. Surfing at Point Addis and Anglesea is a mecca for surfers. Similarly, if you are an elite golfer the scenic golf course with grazing kangaroos will be a fascinating stopover. Lazing to watch the great waves at Fair haven and Eastern View en-route Lorne is a great relax! Taking a walk on Erskine Falls waterfalls into the Otway Ranges and clubbed with a swim at the golden beach of Loutit Bay is simply superb! Trawling the galleries, boutiques and restaurants of the main street and visiting Victoria’s first ever cafe and drinking coffee and camping with a bonfire party in the forest is sure an icing on the cake.

(b) Lorne-Port Fairy

Rugged Cliffs, listing to the ocean on one side and national park on the other while driving into Apollo Bay is simply dramatic and gratifying. Visiting the Great Otway National Park famous for its rain forests, health lands, glow worm caves and waterfalls are worth a pick! Lighthouse view accompanied with a picnic at Shelly Beaches or Paradise make sure you visit.Craggy limestone towers of the Twelve Apostles rising from the Southern Ocean will be visible while curving round the coast. If you are a photographer then your camera would love to adorn the boardwalk or Gibson’s steps and wandering in the paths of London Bridge, Bay of Islands and Loch Ard Gorge is definitely going to make a good photo gallery as your memento.

Crashing 700 ships on the rocks at Shipwreck Coast named after the wild seas are worth a trip. Visiting Warrnambool from May to October and exploring Southern Right Whales Calve off Logan Beach is worth giving a try. Seafaring history of soaking in Port Fairy and witnessing those exotic old white washed cottages and Georgian-style homes are a treat for true connoisseurs. Rubbing shoulders with dolphins, whales and sharks from the boat in the Australia‘s largest fur seal colony is extremely enticing.

(c) Port Fairy-Coonawarra-Robe

Portland (Victoria’s first European settlement) has along its coastal line, hundreds of heritage buildings which is a hot tourist joint. Watching the fishing boats unload their catch on the waterfront is also an anticipated activity for any tourist. Visiting the rugged Cape Nelson State Australia travelPark and towering sea cliffs of Cape Bridgewater is something someone cannot miss. Fascinating deep-blue waters of Bridgewater Bay, the sand-petrified forest and the long walks around the cape to see the large fur seal colony is simply mesmerizing. Do not miss the drive through Nelson crossing the South Australian border. Visiting Mount Gambier is sitting on the extinct volcano and circled by crater lakes such as Blue Lake is a colorful sight from November to February. Stopping at Cabernet Sauvignon (in 20 cellar doors) while driving north to Penola and Coonawarra is extremely rejoicing. Driving, dining, swimming, fishing at Robe, a picturesque Limestone Coast is superbly refreshing. If accompanied with a walk on the long beaches with local lobster as your gourmet companion you will not ask for anything more.

(d) Coonawarra-Robe to Victor Harbor

Coonawarra (North)is gifted with the World heritage-listed Naracoorte Caves National Park. Famous for its 26 limestone caves house and the fossilized skeletons of giant marsupials. Here to visit the Fleurieu Peninsula to have a peek of River Murray at Tailem Bend and heading to the antique hub of Strathalbyn is significantly worth a try. Driving north from Robe to Kingston (South East) if you are a sea foodie to gorge on fresh seafood is worth not a miss. Paying a visit to the historic Cape Jaffa  lighthouse, canoeing or kayaking along the shallow, salty lagoons of The Coorong are the house for a wide diversity of wetland birds. Knowing and learning about Aboriginal culture with a local Ngarrindjeri guide is a star attraction. Reaching Langhorne Creek – wine region (historic river port of Goolwa) and crossing Murray River at Wellington and through Strathalbyn and indulging in surfing, flying kites, spotting southern right whales between June and September in Middleton is not be ignored. Especially, if you swim in Horseshoe and surfing from Boomer Beach in Port Elliot before driving into Victor Harbor you will thank your trip to Adelaide.

(e) Victor Harbor-Adelaide

Admiring and discovering the attractions of the Fleurieu Peninsula while driving towards Adelaide is more exciting if you take a horse-drawn tram to Granite Island to watch little penguins, watching migrating whales between June and October in Encounter Bay is simply stupendous. Cliff-top walk to Australia travelPort Elliot and exploring the streets on the Encounter Bikeway is recommended. Fishing at Cape Jervis jetty or hike part of the Heysen Trail along the Deep Creek Conservation Park coastline is memorable. Driving along the Gulf St. Vincent Coast and stopping to swim at Sellicks and Aldinga beaches or traveling through the rolling green hills of Mount Compass and Yankalilla to the Mclaren Vale wine region is laudable. There are excellent galleries and wine tasting cellars (45 doors) which adds to the excitement. Buying and stocking of Olives, oils, cheeses, almonds and berries from the streets of Yankalilla roadside stalls and orchards en route Adelaide is a great thrill. Wandering on Adelaide’s cultural boulevard of North Terrace, with bike rides through the expansive parklands and enjoying the seaside ambiance of Glenelg and Henley is sure a Bonus!

So all you travel bugs and adventurous, romantic travel freaks put on your sneakers and Tracksuits to roll on an expedition of five unforgettable hot spots of Australia (Melbourne to Adelaide) and have your photo book reminiscence the everlasting treasure moments. Melbourne road trip with campervan hire  is the only way to do so!
