As most of you already know, Vatican City is one of the most beautiful and interesting places in the world.  Vatican City is a city state that is completely surrounded by Rome, Italy.  Not only is this place home to one of the most powerful religious figures on Earth, the Pope, it also has amazing architecture and a rich history.  If you are lucky enough to be going to this amazing place in the near future, then you should really pay attention to the information below.  Today, we are going to learn three of the top things to do while visiting Vatican City.

Go on a Guided Tour

While it’s fun to walk around Vatican City on your own, you might be missing out on a lot if you do.  By going on one of the many Vatican tours, you will learn so much more about the area.  Your guide will be knowledgeable and be able to answer any questions that you may have.  Additionally, a guide may take you to some of the sites not found on many of the tourist maps.  This will give you a local view of the area and you will learn about things which wouldn’t be possible if you toured the area on your own.  Tours are very affordable and for just a few dollars, you can really have a great time!

Eat a Roman Pizza

There are many wonderful places to eat around Vatican City.  The area just outside of the city state has some of the best food in the entire world.  But one dish that you should try before you leave is the Roman pizza.  Pizzarium is one of the best places to get pizza, but tourists flock to this small eatery so make sure you come early.  At this street-styled shop, you will find a wide range of different pizzas all with unique toppings.  But don’t expect to find circle pizza here.  Instead, Pizzarium serves a traditional styled Roman street pizza that just happens to be square.  While this may be a bit different than what you are used to, the pizza here will surely impress you!

 St. Peter's Square

St. Peter’s Square

One of the most impressive areas of Vatican City, St. Peter’s Square is a must-see attraction!  This beautiful square was built and designed by Bernini.  The square was carefully constructed from 1656 to 1667.  Each year during certain religious holidays, people from around the world gather at this location.  This large square can hold up to 80,000 people and is one of the largest of its kind.  As you walk into this massive area, you will notice that you are surrounded by large columns.  Even if you are not the religious type, this square will really give you goosebumps when you enter it.

As you can see, there is a lot to do in Vatican City and the surrounding area.  Make sure that when you come here to bring your camera so you can take lots of photos.  Remember that getting a local guide is a wise move and make sure that you try out the pizza before you leave.
