Working in the Falkland Islands

The working opportunities in the Falkland Islands are somewhat limited for foreigners, but with the right amount of perseverance you might be able to secure employment in the region.

The vast majority of job opportunities in the Falklands are agriculture-oriented. Fishing, sheep shearing and raising are some of the most common options. Recently, much interest has been awarded to the region’s offshore oil resources; oil exploration is a developing industry and foreigners could seek employment in this sector. Additionally, marine biologist may also be interested in working in this part of the world, due to the region’s location in the Atlantic Ocean. Doctor professionals can also seek employment in the region. General practitioners are typically the most sought after.

Proficiency in the English language is a must for any foreigner wishing to work in the Falklands. Working permits are required for all nationals, including UK residents. For more information, contact a local embassy.
