Working in French Guiana

Although the level of unemployment is quite high in French Guiana, there are a few opportunities for foreigners who would like to work in this region.

One industry in which foreigners could find employment easier is the health care sector. So, if you’re a certified doctor or nurse, with a sound knowledge of the French language, you will most likely be able to find employment in French Guiana. The space industry has also developed significantly over the last few years, so foreigners could pursue this venture as well, provided that they have the necessary skills and certifications. Other important industries in the country include forestry and fishing.

Typical work hours in French Guiana are from 8 am to 5 pm, with a 2-hour break at noon. For citizens coming from European Union country, a work visa is not typically needed. Requirements for other international workers vary, so contact a local embassy.
